The 2030 Agenda: global commitment for a better future

Given the need to protect the planet's ecosystem and future generations, in 2015 the UN released, during an assembly with associated countries, the 2030 Agenda, which is an action plan for governments, companies, academia and society as a whole.

This multi-handed document sets out 17 goals and 169 complementary and interconnected goals for countries to adopt measures of improvement by the year 2030, in accordance with their own priorities, and act in the spirit of a global partnership to improve people's lives , now and in the future.

Creating the agenda

In 1992, heads of state from around the world gathered in Rio de Janeiro to discuss the environment and development for future generations. The first global commitment document in this regard was then created. Twenty years later, representatives of countries associated with the UN returned to the city at the conference known as Rio+20 to reaffirm the commitment and reassess the guidelines.

Rio+20 started the discussions that culminated in the creation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that make up the 2030 Agenda.

Application of SDGs in SMF projects

Among our projects, the most contemplated SDGs are poverty eradication, health and well-being, quality education, decent work and economic growth and the reduction of inequalities (numbers 1, 3, 4, 8 and 10). Goal number 10 is to reduce inequalities and is present in 100% of the projects carried out here at SMF.

According to the UN, the world is currently experiencing the greatest inequality since 1940. This happens because the richest tend to get more and more rich and, on the other hand, the poorest have less and less opportunities for growth.

Combating this global problem is an urgent issue and aligned with the SMF principles, which has this as its main mission, combating both relational and material vulnerabilities, in order to promote a more united, just and fraternal society.

The application of the objectives is a collective journey that involves the three dimensions of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental. Together, they cooperate to build the world we want: fair, fraternal, leaving no one behind.
